Geek Bucket List

Ok, maybe Bucket List is a bit of a stretch.

But if I had oodles of free time I’d do the following geeky things:

 

  • Lisp.  Really learn it this time.  No.  Really.
  • Smalltalk too.
  • Build and install an active solar system and a solar hot water heater on my house.
  • Do an iPhone app.  Yay, Objective-C!

    I hope to finally find a publisher for my Object Oriented Cobol manuscript.

    I’d set up a fully automated hydroponic grow room to grow really good…tomatoes.

    I’m doing almost the same thing – learning Clojure. Still trying to get my head around the new vocabulary – “bindings” instead of “variables”, and “recur” instead of any kind of loop. Side-effects that have to be explicitly announced with “do”. Very different than anything I’ve seen before.
